How to Calculate Steel Weight
Steel weight is calculated using the cross-sectional area, length, and steel density (7,850 kg/m³).
Formula
Weight (kg) = Cross-sectional Area (m²) × Length (m) × 7,850
Rebar Formula
For a round bar: Area = π × (D/2)² where D is diameter in meters.
Example: 16 mm rebar, 6 m long → Area = π × 0.008² = 0.000201 m² → Weight = 0.000201 × 6 × 7850 = 9.46 kg
Quick Rebar Rule
Weight (kg/m) = D² / 162 where D is diameter in mm.
Example: Ø16 mm = 16² / 162 = 1.58 kg/m
